Hip Hop and Sampling South Asia
In this paper, I examine the use of South Asian music samples in American hip hop and pop, exploring how this musical exchange reveals shared histories of racialization, migration, and cultural identity. Through the lens of cultural appropriation, authenticity, and diaspora, it investigates how musical borrowing both reflects and shapes the identities of diasporic South Asian and Black communities in the U.S., highlighting the complex intersections of race, tradition, and artistic expression.
